Outdoor: The walking therapist
Walk and talk therapy
Sometimes it’s easier to talk while moving. Walk-and-talk therapy takes the traditional counselling session outdoors, combining gentle movement, fresh air, and nature with therapeutic conversation. Research shows that being in nature can help regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and create a sense of calm; making it easier to reflect and open up.
During a walk-and-talk session, we walk side by side at a comfortable pace in a natural setting. You set the pace; this is not about exercise, but about creating a safe and grounding environment for therapy. Many clients find that the movement helps them feel less “on the spot” than sitting across from someone, and it can make conversations flow more naturally.
You can choose to have all of your sessions outdoors, or to mix them with office-based therapy. Some clients like to start indoors and then move outside once they feel ready, while others prefer to blend the two depending on what they need that week.
Whether indoors or outdoors, the focus remains the same: supporting you to reconnect with yourself, regulate your emotions, and work toward your goals in a way that feels comfortable and safe.
