Perimenopause can be a lot.
Sleep going rogue. Mood doing its own thing. Brain fog. Anxiety. Body changes. Energy changes. Periods that have apparently abandoned all sense of order. Zero libido. Some causal rage. And the occasional moment of wondering, is this perimenopause or is everything just weird now?
Peri Solidarity is a six month closed peer support group in North Hobart for women and other people assigned female at birth who are experiencing — or think they might be experiencing — perimenopause.
It’s facilitated by Beth Rad and Daisy Grodzki, two mental health practitioners who are navigating perimenopause too. We’re not perimenopause experts. We’re in it too.
We’ll bring our group facilitation and mental health skills, some useful information and resources, and plenty of curiosity.
What happens?
Each gathering is 90 minutes and semi-structured.
We’ll usually spend around the first 30 minutes exploring something (hopefully!) useful — a topic, practical tool, resource, piece of research or information about what’s available locally.
Then we’ll open things up. The rest of the session is for talking, listening, swapping notes, asking questions and hearing how other people are navigating it.
There’s no rigid curriculum, and you don’t have to share anything you don’t want to.
Come with questions. Come with stories. Come and listen. Come because you’re not entirely sure what the hell is going on!
Peer support, not therapy
Peri Solidarity is not group therapy. Beth and Daisy are both qualified mental health practitioners, but this is a peer space rather than a therapeutic programme.
We’re there to help hold and facilitate the group — not diagnose anyone, provide medical advice or pretend we have all the answers.
If you need individual therapeutic support, both Beth and Daisy also work privately outside the group.
Who's it for?
Peri Solidarity is for women and other people assigned female at birth who are experiencing, or think they may be experiencing, perimenopause. You don’t need a diagnosis. You just need to feel like this might be the stage you’re in and that talking with other people going through something similar could be useful. The group is deliberately small: a maximum of seven participants, plus Beth and Daisy.
Because Hobart is Hobart
We know there’s a chance someone in the room will know someone who knows someone. Once the group is confirmed, we’ll ask everyone for consent for their name to be shared with the other participants before the first session. That gives everyone a chance to flag a conflict — perhaps your boss is joining, a neighbour has booked, or there’s someone you wouldn’t feel comfortable being in the group with. You can then decide if you would prefer to opt out.
Being comfortable with this name-sharing process is a requirement of joining so no one gets a surprise they don't want!
